KOMO Interview

Paris Jackson from KOMO News interviewed Mayor Courts, Chief Newman, and Sergeant Cummings about the impact an incident on I-5 has on DuPont and mitigation measures that affect Center Dr. The City along with other agencies are working together to have a coordinated effort towards this.

The DuPont Police Department has been creating a multi-layer event driven protocol traffic plan that is situation dependent. DuPont is engaging with different law enforcement partners such as WSDOT, Washington State Patrol, JBLM, Steilacoom, etc. to provide up-to date information. Keeping traffic open for public safety, residents, and commerce is a necessity. The main priority of DPD is traffic safety, the ability for emergency vehicles to move freely, and to provide excellent service to all of those in the city.

The City is committed to making traffic work in the region. Mayor Courts has been working on the legislature to secure funding for the widening of DuPont-Steilacoom Rd which will help in these situations.

Some handy takeaways: sign up for PC Alert to be notified if there are any major accidents on I-5, download the WSDOT app, enter Exit 119 to get onto DuPont-Steilacoom Rd, and please be patient. We understand that sitting in traffic is frustrating but please know that local agencies are trying to aid the incident as fast as possible.
