Planning Department

The Planning and Economic Development Department is responsible for the City's Comprehensive Land Use Plan, which guides development to meet the community's vision.  In addition to this activity the Department works collaboratively with others to assist new business in choosing DuPont as a place to locate and grow.

The Department is assisted in these tasks by a Hearing Examiner, who makes decisions on major projects after recommendations from the staff.  Minor decisions are made by the Department Director to improve efficiency.  The Planning Agency, a five member citizen board appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council, plays an advisory role in developing new regulations and reviewing development to insure it reflects the goals of the community.  (The Planning Agency meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month in the City Hall at 7:00 PM.)

The Department is responsible for administering land use regulations such as building setbacks, housing height, types and quantity of landscaping, parking for commercial business, wetland protection, trail location and tree retention.  The Department also monitors housing diversity.

If you have questions about how the community is growing, this is where you should start.
