LEAK ADJUSTMENTS
For severe water leaks, please note a water leak rate adjustment is permitted once in a two-year period and can only be applied to one (1) billing cycle. The increase of water usage for which an adjustment is sought must be due to a verifiable water leak in the water line between the customer's side of the water meter and the customer's residence.
Customers must apply for a water leak adjustment, in writing, within thirty (30) days of the City's issuance of the water bill sought for adjustment, and must provide proof that the affected water line has been repaired (such as photos of repair or receipt from licensed plumber). Please view Ordinance 06-817 for complete information on water leak adjustments.
INITATION OF WATER UTILITY ACCOUNTS
Recently, the Federal Trade Commission mandated that all utilities adopt "Red Flag Rules", an identity theft prevention program.
For all new water utility accounts in the City of DuPont, Resolution # 09-368, effective May 1, 2009, requires certain identifying information that may be used alone or in conjunction with any other information to identify a specific person. This can include name, address, telephone number, driver's license number, social security number or taxpayer identification number or government passport number.
Resolution # 09-368 requires a copy of the rental agreement from the prospective renter, homeowner or Management Company, or in lieu of a rental agreement, a letter from the property owner granting authorization for renter to apply for utilities can be accepted (Rental Authorization Form). The letter shall include contact information for the owner for verification of information purposes.
After we receive the Rental Authorization, please have the new renter contact the utility billing department at 253.912.5210, to set up their utility account. In lieu of calling Utility Billing, they can fax a completed Utility Application/Update Form to 253.964.3554, or mail it to: City of DuPont, Attn: Utility Billing, 1700 Civic Drive, DuPont, WA 98327.
Renters, and homeowner or Management Company, need to contact Utility Billing at 253.912.5210 when the renter moves out and terminates their contract.
Effective 2/1/10: All utility accounts are charged a $25.00 administrative set-up fee. If you rent out your property and choose to have the City set up utility accounts for your tenants, you will now be charged the administrative fee each time the City has to return the utility account back to you (owner) after the tenant moves out.
Effective 2/1/10: All renter's are charged a $100.00 deposit, which can only be waived by the owner/property manager (Utility Deposit Waiver Form). The deposit will be refunded at the time the utility account is closed.
